EU and International Business Law

Summer Program : 18 June - 13 July 2012

Build up or refresh your knowledge of EU and international business law in the footsteps of leading academics, practitioners and officials from the EU and WTO institutions. Reap the benefit of practice-oriented courses aimed at an international audience.  

Who ?

You are an advanced law student, a legal practitioner, a policy analyst, or you simply want to have a better understanding of the business and legal environment  in the European Union and beyond. You are looking for an intensive study program combining lectures by well-known academics, conferences by key field actors and visits to international institutions and law firms.  

What ? 

A multimodal program from one to four weeks in Brussels and Geneva organized by the Institute for European Studies at the University of Saint-Louis (FUSL, Brussels, in collaboration with the law schools of the University of Saint-Louis and the Catholic University of Louvain), the Graduate Institute of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and the Dean Rusk Center of the Georgia Law School (U.S.) :

       Week 1 – Comparative perspectives on U.S.  and EU law (Brussels)

       Week 2 – Introduction to EU law and policies (Brussels)

       Week 3 – Aspects of EU business law (Brussels)

       Week 4 – International trade law and practice under the WTO  (Geneva)

Each week includes conferences, social events and visits to international organizations and law offices in Brussels, Luxembourg and Geneva.

Fees

1 week in Brussels – EUR 600

2 weeks in Brussels – EUR 900

3 weeks in Brussels – EUR 1050 (for students: EUR 650)

1 week in Geneva – CHF 1500  

The fees cover the courses and conferences, the written materials, the award of the certificates, the visits to the institutions (Court of Justice of the EU, European Parliament, WTO and WIPO), the tours of Brussels, Bruges and Geneva. Accommodation and travelling costs to/from Brussels and Geneva are not included.

Diploma

Each of the four weeks will end with an in-class written exam.

Certificates of attendance will be awarded by the Institute of European Studies at the University of Saint-Louis, the Georgia Law School and/or the Graduate Center of the Geneva Law School.

This certificate will count for the Belgian Bar Continuing Legal Education program (3 points for an half-day, 6 points for a full day of courses/conferences). 

The participants who successfully complete the four week program are eligible to receive four (4) American Bar Association-approved hours of academic credit.
